The plot revolves around Honami’s relationship with her late husband’s teenage son who she is forced to take in. The show stars popular Kyozo Nagatsuka as the boy’s lawyer and her romantic interest. The series also includes a lot of behind-the-scenes newsroom action and depicts the rivalry between the show’s director and producer, who are locked in a constant debate over whether new and variety are, or should be, one and the same.

For some reason i really like this dorama. I realize over these past few months i haven’t even posted or anything, and the dramas i watched lessened. This dorama news no onna was very heartfelt. I liked the how the storyline went and the end, it wasn’t a generic ending. Each episode had a profound meaning, and like the last episode it wasn’t always what you expected. Aso Tamaki the newscaster played by Suzuki Honami was really good. She was also really really pretty in my eyes. Although this drama is well over 10 years ago, portrayal of her was beautiful. And as i wikipedia her it seems news no onna was her second last drama, and it seems she just faded away sadly. It also came to my attention, that jdramas just aren’t what they used to be anymore for the most part. As time progresses, the viewers want something different and i guess that happens. There just doesn’t seem to be any heartfelt ones about everyday life as Hero, Slow Dance or Love Generation. It seems to me after a certain period from early 1990s to early 2000s the quality of Dramas aren’t as epic.

Title (English): Love Generation
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 11
Broadcast period: 1997-Oct-13 to 1997-Dec-22

Synopsis: Katagiri Teppei is a promising creative agent, but whose attitude gets him transferred to the sales department. He has to learn to adapt to the new working environment, which includes cutting his precious locks of hair to create a neater and more appropriate image. Helping him along the way is Uesugi Riko, whom he tried to pick up along the street earlier but was tricked by her instead. Riko does not have a good impression of him at first, but falls for him gradually. However, Teppei runs into his ex-girlfriend Mizuhara Sanae. who is now the girlfriend of his brother Soichiro. Consoling him is Riko, whom Teppei likes gradually. Just when Teppei and Riko start dating, Sanae realises that she still likes Teppei

This drama seemed quite old, but it was still rather interesting. Nostalgic in that it was almost like star no koi fashioned. Love generation had a nice love triangle going around, the girl Reiko fell for Teppei way to fast though, after being dumped. Makes you wonder can one fall in and out of love just like that? Teppei attempt to be a player is pretty funny too. When the two fall in love they still squabble alot. A couple that squabbles with one another, yet loves each other dearly. Their squabble is like their way of showing each others affection. I enjoyed this Drama, it was well done. No tears though.

Synopsis: Left alone on a trip to Hong Kong, Tomoko  finds herself the victim of a purse-snatching. The police arrest the man she points out, but it turns out to be the wrong person: a young Korean man named Ji Hoon. Despite his anger and humiliation, he takes her out to dinner since she has lost all her money, and in return, she agrees to model for his amateur film. What follows is a magical and romantic two days. Upon returning to their respective countries, Tomoko must return to her nine-to-five job and Ji Hoon must resume studying to join the family business rather than pursuing his dream of becoming a film director. But soon the two begin to email each other and rekindle their relationship despite the distance and obstacles between them. Marking the very first time in television history that a drama has been co-produced between Japan and South Korea, the story shows us that love has no borders

mhmmm, this drama was really good. Although short it was really romantic. With only four episodes this drama told a very good story. It actually didn’t seem very short when i was watching. What makes this drama so good, is that even with the language barrier, you were still able to understand the events happening. The actors and actress chosen to play these two lover were very nice. Especially Fukada Kyoko who plays Asai, Fukada is now a really popular actress, playing in dramas like mirai koshi meguru, gakko ja oshierarenai! and much more. However the same can’t really be said to Won Bin who plays Ji Hoon. Although his acting in friends was charming. He hasn’t really appeared any more in the area of media. Such a great actor like him hasn’t produced anything new since 2002 when this drama was made. Sigh. I wish though that those two would make more, as i really enjoy their portrayals of characters. I’ve kinda of gone off track, but what the hell, it can’t be helped when i’m rambling about an awesome drama such as this. There’s lots of time skips in this drama though. examples, Ji Hoon enlists into the South Korean army for his mandatory service, and Asai is left living alone, yet still in love with him during his years of service in the army. Which is sort of hard to believe. Or maybe i don’t understand, but how does one still love someone dearly even though they are apart for so long? The feeling of love would disappear…no?

Anyways…

Izumi is taken by surprise and keeps refusing at first. However, she ends up becoming the 8th kumicho of the Medaka Gumi!

At first glance, this would seem like a interesting dorama, but to me it really wasn’t. Arg, the quality of the show was clear and very detailed, but it really looked cheap. Like someone who bought an HD Recorder and decided with his friends, hey let’s make a movie. Quality awesome, plot terrible, acting terrible also. Probably one of the worst acting i’ve seen in a drama. Not recommended for anyone under 18 because of it’s violence, and contents. However i’ll say, not recommended for anyone.

Star No Koi

18Oct08

Title: スタアの恋
Title (romaji): Sutaa no Koi
Also known as: Star Struck / Love with a Super Star
Episodes: 11
Broadcast period: 2001-Oct-11 to 2001-Dec-20

A Japanese take on Notting Hill (1999). Sosuke Nakata, is just your everyday salaried worker. There is really nothing special that stands out about Nakata. He is a serious guy, whose life mostly consists of going back and forth to the office each day.Suddenly one day though, Nakata just happens to meet a certain woman by coincidence-top star, Hikaruko Kirishima. Just by talking to her, Nakata is left standing feeling like he has just seen a dream.Several days later, Kirishima calls an emergency press conference. And there she announces…”I am now dating a gentleman by the name of Sosuke Nakata, a salaried worker, whom I intend to marry. An announcement about their “relationship,” out of the blue! More than that, this top star’s boyfriend is just your typical salaried worker!! What does Kirishima have up her sleeve as she hides behind her intrepid smile?!Nakata obviously has no idea about what happened at the press conference. He also doesn’t know what lies ahead for him at work, and about Hikaruko’s true intentions.

I found this dorama very cute. It seemed quite old, due to the quality, and well the way they portrayed it, even though it was only a mere 7 years or so ago. Yet even so, it totally consumed me like most doramas. I liked the character portrayals. Like Sosuke Nakata, he really looks like an ordinary office worker, not one of those “prince” type kind of guys that current dramas have. He’s really ordinary looking which adds to the realism to this story plot.

heh the ending of the show was quite cute. You’ll understand if you see it.

Old, but well done

Galileo

01Apr08

Title: ガリレオ
Tagline (romaji): Uso wo tsuku, nazo wo toku / See through the lies, solve crimes.
Episodes: 10
Genre: Detective, mystery
Broadcast period: 2007-Oct-15 to 2007-Dec-17

Synopsis:  Fukuyama Masaharu plays a genius physicist and university associate professor, Yukawa Manabu, who solves difficult mysteries.  Known as Tantei Galileo (”Detective Galileo”), Yukawa is brilliant, an all-round sportsman, tall and handsome but eccentric professor. Yukawa’s partner is a rookie cop, Utsumi Kaoru (Shibasaki Kou), a hot-blooded woman with a strong sense of justice.

The mysteries behind the first couple cases were amazing, in that normal people wouldn’t be able to come up with such clever crimes. And even crazier is that the professor is able to solve these crimes using science/physics. Towards the last few episodes the mysteries and way things are laid out got sloppy.  A interesting Drama that leaves you thinking if science can really solve such things, and if ordinary people are really capable with such ingenius way to kill.
Since i’m really into detective type of shows,

First Kiss

29Mar08

Title: ファースト・キス
Episodes: 11
Genre: Romance
Broadcast period: 2007-Jul-09 to 2007-Sept-17

Synopsis: A bitter-sweet and uplifting comedy drama about a young girl Mio and her brother Kazuki. To treat her illness overseas, Mio has been living away from her older brother Kazuki for the past ten years. After learning about the upcoming surgery, which she has only a fifty percent chance of survival, Mio decides to fly back to Japan to spend time with Kazuki. Looking forward to seeing his sweet younger sister, Kazuki anxiously awaits Mio’s return in Japan. However, their reunion is nothing but full of surprises as Mio has transformed from the innocent sickly girl Kazuki remembers from ten years ago into a sassy woman with an attitude. Kazuki has difficulty dealing with his wickedly selfish younger sister, but soon learns about the truth of her medical condition and has a change of heart.

This Drama surprised me early on. The character of Mio being sassy makes one a bit agitated. Her brother Kazuki seemed like a bother throughout, always interfering with Mio’s life. Though he tried his best to help, it only seemed like he was nuisance. Initially the linking romance was subtle, as the show progressed you realised who liked who.  The timeline of the story was too fast in the given frame. Yea i know love happens in all shape and sizes and time, but seriously in the two months Mio visits she falls in love, her brother falls in love, and everyone matures. Impressive for two months! I don’t know about you the reader, but for me two months is never enough time to accomplish what is really needed. Another positive thing about First Kiss is that they really emphasized the title given. The first real kiss to happen to Mio does not happen till the very last episode. It’s a long passionate kiss in an airport as she prepares to depart Japan from her lover. A great way to end the Drama. A subtle thing in this Drama is a the re-occurring actor that subtly walks across the screen or is just there. In my interpretation he represents Kazuki from the past, when Kazuki was a over weight child. Appearing in every episode even the last, when Mio and her lover are kissing, this character walks pass them, with a little girl holding his hand, walking towards presumably a airport gate. This is possibly another symbolism of the past when Kazuki was with Mio and the fact they eventually separated.

For this kind of brother, sister rekindle reunite drama

Yukan Club

28Mar08

Title: 有閑倶楽部
Episodes: 10
Genre: School comedy
Broadcast period: 2007-Oct-16 to 2007-Dec-18

Yukan Club is about six high class students who are admired by everyone at the school minus the administrators. The six are formed by: “Shochikubai Miroku (Akanishi Jin) is the son of a police commissioner (father) and also a traveller (mother). Miroku has lots of connections and is a very good fighter. His interest is his motorcycle.Kikumasamune Seishiro (Yokoyuma Yu) is the rich son of a large hospital. He also fights as well as Miroku. He is a good fighter with smarts.Bido Granmarie (Taguchi Junnosuke) is the son of a Swedish ambassador. He’s also a playboy, dating many girls at once. Granmarie can’t see himself going steady because he thinks the world can’t handle it.Kenbishi Yuri (Minami) is the rich daughter of a world-renowned president of the Kenbishi Business. She loves to indulge on eating. She’s also a good fighter, but can never beat Seishiro.Hakushika Noriko (Kashii Yu) is the daughter of a famous japanese painter (father) and her mother is from a tradition tea ceremony family. Her only hate is men and can get very violent when they touch her. Kizakura Karen (Suzuki Emi) lives with her mother, a rich jewel dealer. Her dream is to marry into a rich family using her attractive body and style.”

Each episode is non relavent to the last. However the start is mildly simliar with the group members being very bored. Inorder to solve their boredom they go on to search for adventure. Yukan club is a comedy drama, that is not to be taken serious in any matter.  Superficial attacks and scenarios which are near impossible to happen in reality are conjured up in this drama. Bringing a fantasy school club, that one would wish to join.

For being totally creative and totally out there, i hand yukan club

Kurosagi

26Mar08

Title: クロサギ
Title (romaji): Kurosagi
Episodes: 11
Broadcast period: 2006-Apr-14 to 2006-Jun-23

Synopsis: Kurosaki is a young man whose family was destroyed by swindlers. Despite that, Kurosaki grows up to become a con artist known as Kurosagi. As Kurosagi, he swindles other con artists and returns the money to the original victim. He works with the master swindler Katsuragi Toshio even though Toshio had a hand in the destruction of Kurosaki’s family. Kurosaki’s life begins to change when he meets Yoshikawa Tsurara, a young law student who disapproves of his disrespect of the law. Evidently Tsurara becomes a tenant who lives under Kurosaki the landlord. The two are from different worlds. One is a swindler, the other is striving to become a prosecutor. Throughout the show, Tsurara learns that the law can not help save everybody. While Kurosaki continues swindling he is pestered by a local officer who’s goal is to capture him.

A likable Drama, very dark. At times when the persistent officer laughs it is really irritating as it is forced. The storyline is easy to follow. The Drama’s conclusion is bit of a cliff hanger. 11 Episodes doesn’t seem to be enough. Overall, well done as usual.

Title: ホタルノヒカリ
Title (romaji): Hotaru no Hikari
Title (English): Glow of Fireflies
Genre: Romance, comedy
Episodes: 10
Broadcast period: 2007-Jul-11 to 2007-Sept-12

A brilliant Japanese Drama once again.  The Synopsis [taken from DramaWiki]

Hotaru works for a famous interior design company. It’s a glamorous job but Hotaru’s private life is totally the opposite of glamorous. She lives alone, and when she isn’t working she’s mostly lazing about her rented house in training wear. She’s not interested in men. In fact, she isn’t interested in anything. “I’d rather lay around than fool around,” is her motto. Her landlord is a bar owner, and one day his son, who has just separated from his wife, comes to inspect the rental property, not knowing that someone is living there. He is shocked at the mess, but not as shocked as Hotaru. He turns out to be her boss, Takano. The fact that the two are living together is a mystery to everyone else at work. As the story goes on Hotaru falls in love Makoto, one of the employees at the company. With encouragement and sarcasm from Takano, Hotaru musters up the courage and goes with Makoto. And the rest well…just watch.

I loved the Drama as it depicts what a lot of people feel and do. Those who act and dress to impress, but when they return home they can finally become whom they truly are. The end of the Drama made me a bit disappointed. :-/

The actress that plays Hotaru is so pretty. Ayase Haruka the actress when she plays Hotaru at work, her appearance is just stunning. Not that she looks bad in casual wear, she’s just cuter in formal attire.
